Each month we feature a new charity to share with our readers in hopes that they might donate to or at least spread the word to others for awareness. For April, we are profiling Transitions Global, a non-profit that assists girls who are victims of sex trafficking in Cambodia.
1. The mission of Transitions is restoring young girls through the power of a dream.
Transitions provides comprehensive restorative aftercare for girls rescued from sex trafficking. Each girl at Transitions receives personalized care to heal her past and provide opportunities for her future. A girl who finds her home at Transitions finds a new beginning. She finds hope, and with holistic trauma therapy, life skills and sustainable career training, she finds a dream for her future.
*We help girls transition, through the power of a dream, from darkness to light, from victim to survivor to world changer.*
2. Rescue is a process, not a single event.
Delivery from a life of bondage begins with the heroic and dramatic act of rescue in which a girl is removed from harm’s way. The rescue, however, is but the first step on a journey of healing, restoration and empowerment as a girl regains control of her life and once again learns to hope.
3. Freedom without a future is another form of slavery.
Without viable and sustainable career and life skills, a girl rescued from trafficking has few opportunities and little direction. But with these needs addressed she has a restored sense of dignity and a foundation on which to believe in herself and to pursue her dreams.
4. A girl shouldn’t continue to carry the wounds of her past.
The goal of aftercare is to restore lives, not patch them up, to help each girl realize a life of substance and meaning. A holistic approach, with a comprehensive focus on individuals, is the only effective response to a girl rescued from trafficking. Every girl is empowered to shed the wounds of her exploitation to live a whole, healthy life, freed from the burden of her exploitation.
5. Giving a girl choices and a dream restores her future.
By first treating her trauma, then creating a nourishing environment that encourages and respects a girl’s desires and choices, Transitions builds a bridge to opportunities, programs and systems that give her control over her life and the tools to realize her dreams. Each girl plays a prominent role in shaping and taking responsibility for her future.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is my monthly donation used in the restoration process of a girl?
With your monthly sponsorship, you help provide safe shelter, medical and dental care, restorative counseling, education, career training and so much more. Sponsoring a girl is truly the most powerful way you can help restore and empower a young girl rescued from sex trafficking experience freedom, hope and a dream for the future.
Is there a minimum sponsorship amount?
Yes, Project Every Girl sponsorships start at $25 a month.
How will I be connected to my sponsored girl?
Once you complete your sponsorship, you will be sent an informational packet outlining the program in detail. You will receive a beautifully illustrated card matching the one on the sponsorship page, instructions to connect to your sponsored girl in a private forum, instructions for appropriate communication, and a thank you from the Transitions Team.
Can I send a gift to the girl I am sponsoring?
Unfortunately, there is no way to handle this logistically and fairly to all the girls in the program. There are other ways to engage on this level though. We encourage you to attend one of our annual Engagement Trips to Cambodia and participate in our annual Christmas in Cambodia fundraiser.
What if the girl I am sponsoring becomes fully sponsored?
If the girl you are sponsoring becomes fully sponsored, your donation will be used to care for another girl in the program who is still in need.
What if the girl I am sponsoring leaves the program or graduates?
If the girl you are sponsoring leaves the program, we will contact you to let you know and you can chose to sponsor another girl at that time. When a girl graduates and moves into our STAR House program, your sponsorship will continue to support her during this critical year.
What if I want to change the amount of my sponsorship or I need to cancel my sponsorship?
Just send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will take care of it for you.
