Scion Garage Fest
Saturday Oct 17, 2009
2:30 p.m. – 12:30 a.m.
This Saturday get out of the house and into the garage, because for one day, the car-hole is going to be hosting some serious noise. Car company Scion is taking a break from cubist interpretations of the automobile and packing Portland proper with a savage lineup of some of garage rock’s meanest current acts and some classics from the days of yore (you know, the 70s).
Running all day Saturday out of four venues (two all-ages friendly) with over thirty-two bands, there is more then enough chances to get out of the weather and shake your tail feathers. The line up is vast and reflects the many nuisances under the “garage” banner – from the soulful fuzzed out crooning of King Khan & the BBQ Show to the cocky basement anthems of The Black Lips to special appearances by the legendary psychedelic innovator Roky Erikson of the 13th Floor Elevators or the recently reunited protopunk cult group Simply Saucer.
I expect nothing less then two skinned knees and a blown mind. Getting near anyone one of these acts is normally cause for concern for the many goodly farmers and judges of the valley, but bring them all together under the same roof? This is explicitly forbidden for the sake of thine goodly daughters and livestock. So come hear the sound that made Detroit great; houses are overrated anyway.
Huh? You can’t make it to Portland? Ah, well we got you covered! Check back next week as we’ll have a full review of The Scion Garage Fest!!
