Northern Irish newcomers General Fiasco have been working hard for the past three years! Creating a buzz with their singles “Rebel Get By” and We Are The Foolish,” obtained a support slot for Snow Patrol’s upcoming gigs, and gained the attention of Zane Lowe, Steve Lamacq, Colin Murray, and Jo Whiley. Their debut album Buildings will be hitting stores on March 22nd, but in the meantime we will have to enjoy their latest single “Ever So Shy” and a short interview with the band’s bassist/vocalist/front-man Owen Strathern.
Randomville: What inspired the lyrics for “Ever So Shy?”
Owen Strathern: Sitting in a depressing student house in Belfast, realizing that us and our friends were slipping into casual alcoholism, for a while life was just drinking and going out. Also being aware that it was becoming mandatory to be drunk to be fit to communicate with new people and make a move on the girls/boys that we liked.
Randomville: What does the video mean to you and are you happy with it?
Owen Strathern: We are really happy with the way the video looks, we had to think about what the song was about and felt that it might be hard trying to get the meaning translated in a story with out it looking cheesy or discrediting the song’s meaning, so we thought that the performance video was a better approach. We also got to use a shooting style which the directors came up with, (the integration of multiple cameras) it plays with the mind a little, looks really cool.
Randomville: What is the best compliment you got for this single?
Owen Strathern: That it has made the BBC radio one playlist; its a massive compliment for us.
