Greetings from Helsinki: Day 1
Helsinki: Day one. Or rather, night one. But really, day one, since the sun doesn’t actually set during the summer in Finland.
This is my vacation. I left Montreal yesterday evening (6.18) arrived in Helsinki at 6pm local time the following day (6.19). I am here because I like to visit places where I won’t run in to typical tourists, especially of the American variety. More importantly, I’m here to meet Sara, my penpal of ten years. Thanks to her I know that Finnish indie rock is amazing. And in some instances it is way better than Swedish indie rock which seems to get more press. Jet lag is making me a bit wonky and light headed. This and the never-ending sun doesn’t help. To give you a clue, most of these photos were taken around 9pm local time.
I won’t go into much at this point except to say that I am staying in a hotel that up until five years ago, was a prison. And that most of the photos are in and around the harbor area where there is supposedly a really nice market in the morning. I hope to get my internal clock regular by tomorrow.
In the meantime, enjoy the randomness.
